Custom Built High Tunnels To Fit Your Needs

Arctic Dome Greenhouses has a design as a “dome tunnel” model as specified through the 2014 Farm Bill under the USDA. We have models to meet each customer’s needs including the amount of square foot approval. Our program allows us to be able to custom build one to meet these specifications. We are no longer accepting assignments of contracts from the NRCS. Each contract will be custom built to fit the need of purchaser while complying with the requirements of the NRCS.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Seasonal High Tunnel Systems the same as Greenhouses?
No. Both seasonal high tunnel systems and greenhouses can depend on plastic covering and often heaters to raise temperatures within the structure. However, plants in greenhouses usually grow in containers. Plants in seasonal high tunnels grow directly in the soil. Unlike greenhouses, seasonal high tunnel systems are seasonal and are considered temporary structures.

A seasonal tunnel system is a polyethylene (plastic) covered structure that is used to cover crops to extend the growing season. They are also known as high tunnels or cold tunnels. They are used to extend the growing season for crops by approximately two-three weeks on each end of the season by increasing the temperature surrounding the crop and minimizing the heat loss during the night.

What are the structure requirements for seasonal High Tunnels/Dome Tunnels?
Under EQIP, the seasonal high tunnel system must be obtained as a pre-fabricated kit directly from the manufacturer or from a supplier. The frame shall be constructed of metal, wood, or durable plastic and be at least 6 feet in height. The plastic cover must be, at a minimum, a 6-mil greenhouse-grade, UV resistant polyethylene. Bows and rafters must be no more than 4 feet apart. Individuals must work closely with their manufacturer or supplier to plan, design and construct the structure in accordance with the manufacturer’s specific recommendation
Is installation a requirement of the vendor?
No. Partial or full installation cost occasionally may be used depending on contract allotment after purchasing cost of kit, options, shipping and ground work . We try and work with clients to absorb what we can. But as in all cases of business, it is not our responsibility to provide this service for free. We occasionally can offset some to all depending on size, options, ground work, shipping/delivery etc. No company is responsible to bear the cost for this option for installation.
Do we take assignments of contracts?
Each will be on a case by case basis. As the risk and reward does not look to be beneficial and why MOST companies have cancelled this process. If we decide to take an assignment, we are the ones that supply the contract allotment at our cost and all excess fees associated at the time of kit purchase over and above contract price allotment from NRCS will be due in advance. As we are at risk for the full face value of said NRCS contract allotment. But based upon current trends we will have to revisit this and modify our assignment process. We will however if assignment is not accepted, we will refer customers with micro loan companies.
What do polyethylene fabric warranties include in laymen terms?
Well Alaskans. Most companies void warranties just by shipping to Alaska. Most greenhouse film’s warranty is basically the UV protection. As in the case with most other high tunnel companies. They will not guarantee load, structure, extreme cold or winds. Once fabric is cut, most warranties become null and void. Most polyethylene manufacturers have disclaimers as to many disqualifying things which will exclude any return. This is not only the case in the product we supply, but ALL other High Tunnel companies. I have yet to hear any high tunnel company to guarantee any fabric due to any of these failures. Why it seems our company is required to have a different standard is perplexing. We do though, on the other hand warranty our product for failures more than any other company on the market, over and above manufacturers warranty. We do not include the failure of fabric to be warrantied where debris penetrating fabric in high winds, puncturing, Animals puncturing fabric from cat claws to moose antlers, lightning, winds over specified dome warranty, negligence of owner (see warranty page on our website), and snow loads over warranty specs. Though the factory warranty on its face is hyperbole, we back our product and go above and beyond Factory.
